NEW YORK SWIM WEEK: PARADISE ISLAND

New York Swim Week is an event that never fails to captivate. The show was founded by swimwear designer, production specialist and event coordinator Evita Scoccia in 2021. In an exclusive interview, she reveals the inspiration behind her own swimwear brand and how it led to the production of NYSW.

Evita presented her swimwear line at Miami Swim Week in 2020, but left wanting more out of the experience, so she set out to create an experience in which designers would have more control over their runway and overall artistic vision. Evita was living in the Sky building when she decided it would be the perfect venue for New York Swim Week. She presented the Life Time Sky team with the idea of hosting the extravagant event on their skydeck. Not only did they love the idea, but they nearly hired her on the spot as a event coordinator, and that’s how it all started. In addition to the venue, Evita also sources the designers, models and sponsors! She takes great pride in helping the designers present their brand’s vision and achieve their desired results.

This year NYSW featured high-end, luxury swimwear and accessories for both women and men. Dopamine dressing took center stage with tropical brights in hues like aqua and orange and whisked away the audience into paradise. The swimwear featured bold contrasting colors, creating eye-catching visuals that celebrate the vivaciousness of summer. One couldn’t help but notice the vibrant presence of Barbie pink, a hue that radiates confidence. This theme was ingeniously interpreted by each designer. From contrasting neon trims, to lustrous lurex to daring cut-outs, lace-up details and lingerie-inspired swimsuits. Shimmering metallics emerged as another star of the show, seen in almost every collection. One-piece swimsuits that exuded elegance and sensuality with corset-like designs, plunging V-necks and alluring waist cut-outs were another common trend on the runway. Evita closed the show with her own swimwear brand and strutted down the runway in the first look which was actually the piece that got her into parsons.

The event not only celebrated the artistry of swimwear but also served as a platform for designers to advocate for sustainable and eco-friendly fashion. Several collections incorporated recycled materials and environmentally conscious practices, signaling a promising shift toward a more environmentally aware industry.

The celebration of femininity was truly the essence of New York Swim Week this year. As the event came to a close, it left an indelible mark on the fashion world and set the stage for an even more glamorous and innovative future.

During the event, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Bernare Moore, the visionary behind the iconic urban glam swimwear brand, Bath House. Hailing from New Jersey, Moore has been designing for the world of fashion for over two decades. Inspired by his grandfather’s tailoring legacy, he honed his sewing skills and mastered the art of pattern-making, eventually founding Bath House. What sets this brand apart is its dedication to crafting custom, one-of-a-kind pieces exclusively tailored for celebrities. Notably, his designs have graced the screens of music videos featuring esteemed hip-hop artists like TI, Ocho Cinco Johnson, and 50 Cent.

In conclusion, New York Swim Week 2023 was a remarkable triumph, showcasing the best of swimwear design, and redefining the boundaries of fashion as we know it. With the sky as the limit, it will undoubtedly continue to make waves, inspiring both industry insiders and fashion enthusiasts alike for years to come.
